IQ Derm: South Africa is paradise for Free Radicals! Hotter, sunnier days & a more outdoor lifestyle means a different formulation focus than European & New York developed products that we mostly find in SA. Then there’s altitude. At 1,700m above sea level, Johannesburg is extremely dry, getting 23% more UV than sea level. And don’t be fooled – our pollution per capita is worse than many industrialised European capitals.
Little wonder 60% of caucasian SA’s will develop non melanoma skin cancer by the age of 60. I therefore gave incredible focus to the following 3 things when designing IQ:
– SPF (UVA & UVB protection)
– Anti-oxidants (our own special IPF)
– Products that are highly emollient & moisturising.

IPF stands for ‘Immuno Protection Factor’ – that’s because it looks after the health of your collagen & elastin.IPF protects the Langerhans’ cells, which are the watchdog cells that detect & neutralise Free Radicals. By being IPF-fuelled, these Langerhans’ cells get ‘brave’ & successfully perform the role they are meant to – i.e. they scavenge Free Radicals.It’s a little known fact that for Anti-oxidants to be effective they need to be present prior to UV exposure.
